Abstract

The thesis is devoted to the study of the design, operation and improvement of the 16V 48/60 marine diesel engine as part of the power plant of a bulk carrier. The paper analyzes the architectural and technical features of the vessel, considers modern fuel systems of the Common Rail type, which ensure an increase in engine efficiency and compliance with environmental standards. The engine duty cycle was calculated for the nominal operating mode using the Grinevetsky-Masing methodology, which allowed optimizing its performance characteristics. The engine efficiency was improved, including the use of supercharging systems and gas turbochargers. Based on the data obtained, technical improvements were proposed to increase engine performance and reduce fuel consumption. The economic justification of the modernization showed the feasibility of implementing changes that can achieve significant savings in operating costs with a short payback period. The study also focuses on labor and environmental protection, including compliance with international safety and environmental standards. The research results can be used to optimize the operation of ship power plants, ensure their efficiency and environmental safety.
