dc.description.abstract1Introduction. The anthropocentric approach in linguistics in recent decades has shifted the focus of scholars from language to man as a native speaker, namely to human understanding of language units, their interpretation and understanding, taking into account cultural traditions and personality psyche. This makes it possible to study the patterns of formation and development of a language, consciousness and culture from a new perspective – through the relationship between man and language. Under such conditions, one of the main objects of research in modern linguistics is the concept – the semantic side of the language object. Purpose. The concept of "concept" has its origins in cognition and is a basic term of cognitive linguistics. The aim of this article is to analyze the term "concept" in cognitive linguistics. In accordance with the purpose the tasks of the article are: 1) to reveal the essence and structure of the term "concept"; 2) analyze the existing classifications of the concept. Methods. The author used such research methods as analysis, systematization and generalization of linguistic, psycholinguistic and special literature of Ukrainian and foreign authors on the definition, structuring and classification of the term "concept", which enabled us to analyze the problem and identify leading research approaches to its understanding. Analysis of recent research and publications. Despite the great attention of scholars to the term "concept" (N. Alefirenko, S. Askoldov, A. Babushkin, N. Boldyrev, A. Vezhbytska, S. Vorkachev, A. Zalevskaya, V. Karasyk, V. Kolesov, O. Kubryakova, V. Maslova, M. Pimenova, Z. Popova, I. Sternin, Y. Stepanov and others) , there is no single interpretation of this term. It first appeared in 1928 in the works of S. Askoldov. At the present stage, there are dozens of definitions of this term, which reveal several approaches to understanding the term of "concept", the main of which are linguo-cultural, cognitive and that of psycholinguistics. Results. The term “concept” has its origins in cognitology and is a basic concept of cognitive linguistics. The purpose of this article is to analyze the term “concept” in cognitive linguistics. In accordance with the purpose, the objectives of the article are: 1) to reveal the essence and structure of the term “concept”; 2) analyze the existing classifications of the concept. Despite the great attention of scholars to the term “concept”, there is no single interpretation of this term. Representatives of the linguo-cultural approach consider the concept as a basic unit of culture, emphasizing its value component. Representatives of the cognitive approach consider the concept as a mental phenomenon, a global mental unit. Psycholinguists believe that the term “concept” should be viewed through the prism of a person's personal experience, emotions, values and associations related to it. The components of the term “concept” are the following: image, information content and the interpretative field (Popova, Sternin); image, concept and value (Karasyk, Vorkachov); intrazone and extrazone (Slyshkin); the main relevant feature, additional or several additional passive features, internal form (Stepanov) etc. The types of the term “concept” are: imagination, scheme, concept, frame, script, gestalt (Popova, Sternin); mental pictures, concept diagram, hyperonym concepts, concept frames, concept script / script, insight, kaleidoscopic concept (Babushkin); basic concepts, descriptor concepts, relative concepts (Pimenova) etc. Conclusion. Thus, the study revealed a large number of interpretations of the term “concept” in cognitive linguistics, approaches to its interpretation, structure and classification, which, however, are not contradictory but rather harmoniously complement and enrich each other.
