dc.description.abstractМета.
Purpose. The purpose of this work is to experimentally study the process of forming polymer optical waveguides by laser ablation using an infrared continuous CO₂ laser with a wavelength of 10.6 μm for connections on printed circuit boards. The purpose of the work was to experimentally substantiate the possibility of using this technology to form waveguide structures in photopolymers compatible with the technological cycles of manufacturing printed circuit boards (PCBs), and to determine the optimal laser processing parameters taking into account the requirements for accuracy, depth and quality of microchannels. Method. The work uses the laser ablation method, chosen as one of the most promising due to its high productivity, non-contact nature of the impact and compatibility with existing technologies of microelectronic production. For micromachining of polymer optical waveguides, an infrared CO₂ laser was used, the choice of which was due to its high energy efficiency, reliability, ease of control and economic feasibility compared to short-wavelength lasers (excimer or Nd: YAG). Results. The experimental results showed that the ablation depth increases linearly with increasing SED, while the channel width increases logarithmically, which is due to the Gaussian distribution of the laser beam intensity. At SED ≈ 50 mJ / mm, an ablation depth of about 60 μm was observed, which is sufficient for complete removal of the core layer and partial penetration into the lower cladding of the waveguide. The obtained parameter values are consistent with theoretical models of thermal effects and demonstrate the stability of the process during repetition. Scientific novelty. The scientific novelty of the work lies in the experimental confirmation of the effectiveness of using a continuous CO₂ laser to form polymer optical waveguides in printed circuit board structures, as well as in establishing the patterns of the influence of the surface energy density of laser radiation on the geometric parameters of microchannels. Practical importance. Given the simplicity of implementation, reproducibility of results and high accuracy of geometry, the investigated technology of CO₂ laser ablation of polymers can be used as a low-cost alternative to photolithographic methods for the manufacture of optical interconnects. It provides the possibility of integrating waveguide channels directly into the structure of the printed circuit board, which opens up prospects for the creation of hybrid electrooptical systems of a new generation.
