Various methods are used in foundries to prepare the melt for casting in order to ensure high quality of the casting. For this purpose, energy methods are used, among which, in recent years, it has been proposed to use conductive electric current treatment of the melt (CECT). Its effect is multifunctional and multi-purpose. In this case, a complex of physical fields is generated (electromagnetic, temperature, acoustic, and flow fields). Their integrated effect leads to a positive change in the thermodynamic state of the melt. The role of the flows is to ensure active mixing of the melt. The role of the flows is to ensure active mixing of the melt. Traditionally, a pair of electrodes is used for CECT with one type of current. In the case of simultaneous processing of different types of current and types of electrode systems, the problem of determining the distribution of fields in the melt and their intensities arises. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to determine the conditions and factors under which, during the simultaneous treatment of the melt with currents of different types, the dispersion of zones of increased intensity throughout the volume of the liquid-phase object of treatment and a significant increase in the flow rate are achieved. Methodology. To solve the problem, a simulation modeling was employed, utilizing the Navier-Stokes equations for a viscous incompressible fluid and the system of Maxwell's equations in a quasi-stationary formulation. The calculations were performed for a liquid aluminum-silicon alloy of the AK7 type. Two variants of electrode systems were used for the analysis. In one, the pairs of electrodes are located almost in the center of the cylindrical tank, and in the other, they are spaced apart. For the calculations, alternating current (AC), direct current (DC) with frequencies of 50 Hz and 100 Hz, respectively, and the superposition of AC+DC currents were chosen. The results obtained showed that, depending on different variants of the components of the system «types of currents – types of electrode systems», it is possible to obtain a fundamentally different qualitative and quantitative topology of the flow field. The combination of superposition of currents and DC proved to be the most advantageous for realizing the acceleration of the flow field. As well as a combination of AC and DC. Also, the variant of spaced electrode pairs showed that the flow field can cover almost the entire melt bulk. Practical value. The results allow us to predict the optimal processing time, taking into account the effective mixing of treated and untreated melts.
